The
Georgia Sea Island Singers
A
Musical Moment in History
A Tribute to African American Culture

"Tony Merrell and Frankie Quimby "
INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED
PERFORMING ARTISTS, The Georgia Sea
Island Singers, tour
world-wide throughout the year sharing their unique African-American
heritage and culture. From the rich reservoirs of authentic
traditions preserved in the isolated island communities
off the southern coast, the singers share the origin of
the spirited songs, games and dances, created by slaves here
in America, and handed down for 200 years through the generations
in the time-honored oral tradition.

"...a rare
example of the continuity of a vanishing culture...
his rich bass reverberates like thunder."
Southern Living
"... he sang
countless haunting melodies, capable of
transporting
a listener back 200 years."
Time Magazine
Doug's contributions to the traditions of history and music are immeasurable and by shedding light on an oft-forgotten world, he reclaimed the dignity, creativity, intelligence and pride of his ancestors. His life's work is a moving example of the power of story and song.
As he often sang...
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear,
and Grace my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear,
the hour I first believed.
And Now - Grace Has Led Him Home.
